Founder’s Associate — Office of the Founder, Signisys
Help the founder of Signisys run the company. You’ll work on whatever matters most that week — closing a deal, prepping the board, hiring a senior leader, or untangling a problem nobody else has time to look at. If you want a fast, messy, unreasonably good education in how a company actually gets built, this is the seat for it.
About the Role
- You’re the person the founder leans on when something important needs to move and there isn’t an obvious owner yet.
- Your week sits somewhere between strategy, operations, and execution — usually all three before lunch.
- No two weeks look the same. One week it’s a competitive teardown before a pitch; the next, an interview loop, an investor update, or a customer escalation.
- You’ll be in most of the important rooms, and after a while you’ll be expected to lead a few of them.
- This is a launchpad role, not a permanent one. Most people in this seat move into functional leadership within two years, or leave with our support to start something of their own.
What You’ll Do
- Work as the founder’s right hand on whatever needs the most attention that week — research, deal work, a tricky email thread, a fire that needs putting out.
- Own special projects end-to-end. Take a vague prompt like “should we look at the SMB segment?” and come back in two to six weeks with a plan, a pilot, or a recommendation worth acting on.
- Run the operating cadence — weekly leadership reviews, monthly all-hands, quarterly OKR planning. You own the agendas, the pre-reads, and the follow-through.
- Build the board and investor materials — board decks, investor updates, the data room, diligence requests. Sit in on calls and own the follow-ups.
- Help close senior hires. Source leadership candidates, run scheduling for the important loops, draft offers, and project-manage onboarding for new leaders.
- Protect the founder’s attention. Triage the inbox, hold the calendar, decide what the founder needs to see today and what can wait. It’s judgement work, not admin.
- Jump into customer and partner work. Join key sales calls, draft proposals, follow up on the accounts the founder is personally driving.
- Stand up new functions. If we don’t have a competitive intel motion, a partnerships pipeline, or a BizOps practice yet, prototype it, run it for a quarter, and then either keep it or hire the person who should.
What You Bring
Must-Haves
- 2–5 years somewhere demanding — strategy consulting, investment banking, VC or PE, an early-stage startup, or a company you started yourself.
- Structured thinking when the problem is fuzzy. A one-line prompt becomes a clear plan, a real recommendation, and the numbers to defend it.
- Writing you’d put your name on — a board memo, an investor update, a customer email, a Slack message, each in the right register.
- Bias to action. You’d rather ship a rough v1 today than a perfect one in two weeks.
- Discretion. You’ll be close to compensation conversations, fundraising, and personnel issues, and you handle them the way the founder would.
- Comfort with a spreadsheet and a slide deck in the same day. Model a unit-economics scenario in the morning, walk the founder through it in the afternoon.
Nice-to-Haves
- Time at a seed-to-Series-B startup.
- Familiarity with Signisys’s space — helpful, not required.
- Light technical chops — SQL, basic data work, or no-code tools like Zapier, Airtable, or Retool.
- An MBA, CA, or equivalent — nice, but not required.
Why Join Us
What you’ll get
- Direct access to the founder, with weekly 1:1s and the context behind every major decision.
- A real path into a leadership role at Signisys, or with our backing, into something you start yourself.
- Cash, meaningful equity, and a learning budget you’ll actually spend.
- Small team. Low politics. Your work is visible from week one.
What to expect
- Long weeks around fundraises, board meetings, and big launches. That’s the job, not a phase.
- Constant context-switching. Some days you’ll touch eight different things.
- Glamorous work and unglamorous work, often in the same hour. Both matter.
- Travel when needed — offsites, investor meetings, important customers.
Growth & Career Path
- Months 0–3: Ramp and earn trust. Shadow the founder, take over the operating cadence, ship a few small wins.
- Months 4–12: Own real surface area. Lead one or two strategic projects a quarter, and own at least one company-wide motion — OKRs, board ops, or fundraising support.
- Months 12–24: Decide what’s next, together with the founder — a functional leadership role at Signisys, a Chief of Staff seat as we scale, or our backing to go start your own thing.
Location & Working Style
Based out of Signisys’s primary office, in person by default with room for focused work-from-home days. You’ll be in the room with the founder — that proximity is part of the point of the role.
How to Apply
Send us a one-page note and your CV. The note matters more than the CV — tell us about a hard problem you actually owned: what you did, what worked, what you’d do differently. We reply within a week.
